September 2006 aboard the S/V Ghost

Ahh, life on a boat is slow and wonderful! And so, as I write this it is not September, but mid November......we are just a little behind in our blogs.

We start the month in the dark. The city of Ballard, including our marina, was  in the dark for about 12 hours. More about that later. At the beginning of the month we were all waiting anxiously for the arrival of the S/V Tirua. She is the newest home to our closest friends Bob, Shari, and the girls Sydney and Annie.

Here's Tirua leaving the next morning bound for Olympia:

As you can see, she is an beautiful ketch. She is very similar to Ghost. This makes her a good sailing companion for "the big trip"!

The really cool thing is that after a really long day's sail from Port Angeles, the Tirua and her crew slowly motored into Shilshole around mid-night. As I said before, every dock in the marina was dark from the power outage that had happend in the morning, but just as Bob was trying to find our dock and his slip, the lights popped back on as if to welcome them home. Or at least close to home. The S/V Tirua and her crew are now at there slip in Olympia. Welcome home!

Later on in the month, we said good-bye to Billy and Trish aboard Kwinhagak. They left Seattle on a 5 year Voyage around the world! It was very hard to see them go. they were the perfect neighbors, but more so they became truly close friends

At the end of the month we got a sitter for the two swabbies. This gave Ang and I a chance to go to an Eric Stone  outing. He was playing with Music Man Dave at the Tides Tavern in Gig Harbor. It was strange to hear him play for something other than a Lats and Atts Crowd. I would have to say though that most of the crowd was Lats and Atts people that would be at any PNW cruisers party.

The best part of the night was seeing all of our old friends from the different sailing events we have been to over the last few years.

Question? Do any of you know who or what the "chicken Boy" is? Well, if you do than you know the whole story. If you don't, well then, you will have to hear it some time. It was an interesting meeting to say the least between ChickenBone and Eric Stone. mostly....I would have to say.....You had to be there!! Way to go CB!

And that brings this month to a close.
